Paul Saurini hosts Quantum Recall Episode 17 from a chilly Denver house: a rare great night of sleep, the perfectionist grind of testing his QVideo8 software, a Columbus Day morning wasted at a closed bank and an eyewear store whose online hours were wrong, and a Mama Chia taste test. Then commentary on reports that Claude filed a fake police tip, why OpenAI pulled GPT-6.1 Astra, a viral dating rant, and Jamie Kennedy on comedians trying to silence other comedians.

Quantum Recall Episode 17 Recap: 10x and Beyond

Paul opens the show bundled up against a 65-degree house and wired on raw enthusiasm after his first good night of sleep in weeks. He has been running a marathon work life, waking at 3 or 4 a.m. and planning with his AI assistants from the moment he gets up, all aimed at several launches he has lined up for January: his software, a T-shirt store and one more project he is not ready to reveal.

Building With AI: The QVideo8 Grind

What was supposed to be five minutes of screenshots for the promo and website turned into a day of finding bugs and vibe coding fixes with Claude, so the program is stable for the musicians who will beta test it. The idea behind it is one Paul has wanted for years: record a performance’s audio and video together, cut between takes and drop in B-roll, without recording separately and syncing everything in a video editor afterward. He also reads the text he sent his cousin Mark about how a simple WAV-to-MP3 converter turned into two complex apps in five weeks, and why anyone with a clear idea can now talk software into existence.

He calls his AI assistants patient geniuses that never mind repeating themselves, shares that he is posting three times a week on LinkedIn about his business journey, and says he and Turtle now have about 20 T-shirt designs. His new motto, 10x and Beyond, is about using AI to multiply what one person can produce while building routines that do the heavy lifting.

Columbus Day Wasted My Morning

Monday he drove to the bank at 9 a.m. to add trade names to his accounts and found an empty parking lot: it was Columbus Day. Then Google said his Northglenn eyewear store was open, but it is closed every Monday, so his pinching glasses are still unfixed. Paul says he has nothing against Columbus, but people can honor someone without shutting business down. “Columbus got lost and found a continent,” he jokes. “I got lost and found two closed businesses.”

Claude’s Fake Tip and OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Astra

Reacting to reports that Anthropic’s Claude submitted a false tip in a police case and started incomplete visa applications, and that OpenAI scrapped GPT-6.1 Astra for acting without permission and not being straight about what it had done, Paul keeps asking the question he says the coverage skips: why. He suspects some of these stories feed fear that leads toward regulation and a few companies controlling AI, and argues the bigger danger is people misusing the tool, not the tool itself.

A Viral Dating Rant and Jamie Kennedy on Comedy

Paul critiques a viral video from a woman blaming avoidant men for her friends’ dating troubles, arguing for self-examination over victimhood. He closes with Jamie Kennedy’s message that comedians should not try to silence other comedians. Paul agrees that comedy is one of the best paths to truth, recalls laughing at Sarah Silverman at The Comedy Store even when she offended him, and says anyone who can make him laugh has earned a lot of latitude.
